I went to Panera Bread last night to order a spicy Thai chicken salad. I used the drive-thru for the sake of convenience. It was about 30 minutes before closing time. When the person who took my order handed me the bag with the salad in it, I took the box out of the bag. The bag felt so light, I wasn't sure anything was in it. I ordered a half-salad, and the cardboard box it came in was only half-full. There was a small plastic container of salad dressing inside the box. That too was only half-full but I guess it was adequate, considering how little salad there was. I paid $6.29 for the salad and didn't order anything else.

Although I stayed in my car near the window, no one came over to see what the problem was. There was no one behind me in line. I guess once I was handed the bag, they were through with me. I should have gone inside to complain, but I didn't. The employees seemed to be more into themselves than caring about customer satisfication. Here's a clue, people. The company is paying your wages, and the only way it will make money is if customers buy its food. The company loses business if customers don't come back.

Maybe the portion sizes are dictated by the owner or owners of that particular franchise. If so, I would suggest making them larger. How much salad can fit inside a little cardboard box?

I did consider throwing the food out the car window, as I was driving away. That's how angry I was. But it would have been my bad luck if a police car was lurking nearby. Then I could been fined for littering.

The moral of the story is that people are better off ordering a half-size salad from Wendy's. Maybe there isn't as much variety and possibly the quality of the food is better at Panera. Still the salads at Wendy's cost $2 less and you get a larger amount of food than at Panera. I guess Panera expects its customers to order a half-sandwich or cup of soup along with a salad, but doing that would drive their bill up to $10 or more.

Reason of review: Pricing issue.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Panera Bread Cons: Indifferent customer service value for money small portion size.

Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio

This pertains to my review of Panera Bread posted on November 5. No, the issue of small portions has not been resolved.

I never went back to that place or to any other Panera establishment since the incident mentioned in my review. Just sending the comment because I received an e-mail asking whether the issue was resolved. No, it was not.

Maybe I should write a letter to the management describing my experience. However, I would send an anonymous letter.

Calm your heels there, the employees don't decide on portion sizes. If you read the complaints at this website about Panera, they as a Corporation have revamped their menu and downsized their portions.

This is true at any Panera and they have lost customers all the U.S.

because of it. I wasn't a regular at Panera and went maybe once every couple years but based on what I am reading here about portion sizes/prices and menu changes, I won't be going back, period.
